DISCOURSE

Webster defines a discourse as an extended expression of thought on a subject.  In His Upper Room Discourse Jesus was telling His disciples what was going to happen after His death on the cross.  This information is very useful for us today as it still applies.  In Jesus' own words as recorded for us by John...

John 14:13-17
13 "And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
16 "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you.  (NAS)

If you are a child of God, that if you believe the teachings of Jesus Christ, you will have the "Spirit of Truth", the Holy Spirit to guide you.  Faith in the Word that through the power of your Spiritual Beliefs you can overcome the temptations of the world.  Yes, there is a spiritual side of our lives, this is not the superstition of the powers of darkness, but it is the power of the Holy Spirit.  What is the state of your spiritual life?  Is it guided by faith in the Word of God?  The Bible is God's words, given to us by His Son, Jesus Christ.  Peace, joy, happiness, and serenity are gifts from God.  Gifts which can only be obtained by trusting God.  This is "Faith".

This was the faith of our nation's founding fathers.  Our nation's history can be traced by our freedom to choose our individual beliefs.  Our collective belief or faith will chart our future.  Be sure that as an individual you are headed in the right direction...  Let the "Spirit of Truth" guide you.  John 14:13-16 makes it clear that you must ask God for this guidance in Jesus' name.  Then you must follow through by studying God's Word, such that the guidance will be in truth, God's will for you.  Not your own selfish and worldly desires.  This is a very simple concept.  Very deep and hard to accept.  You must put your ego aside and "Let go, and let God".  Will you accept God's gifts today?
